Cat. #004601: HELENE THIMIG

Rather scarce vintage inscribed fountain pen signature on a 3x5-inch tan card, acquired in-person by inveterate collector Emily Barnes in the 1950s. In very good condition. Helene Thimig had been a leading light of the German stage for decades before she and husband Max Reinhardt relocated to the States to flee the Nazis in the 1940s. Thereafter, she found new work as a character actress in Hollywood films, typically cast as dark, intriguing ethnic types and sourpuss old bats. She was unforgettable as Madame Kyra in the Val Lewton horror classic Isle of the Dead (1945), as well as in Edge of Darkness (1943), The Seventh Cross (1944), Strangers in the Night (1944), The Hitler Gang (1944), None But the Lonely Heart (1944), The Locket (1946), Cloak and Dagger (1946), Cry Wolf (1947), and Decision Before Dawn (1951).
